× Generic placeholder thumbnail Mr. Ghulam Muhammad Abbasi is currently working as Director Islamic Banking Department at State Bank of Pakistan (SBP). He has around 24 years of diversified working experience at senior level in On-site Inspection, Banking Supervision, Development Finance and Islamic Banking at State Bank of Pakistan. He has performed vital role for the success and promotion of Islamic Banking by utilizing the best capabilities in a dynamic and challenging environment. The key roles as regulator include policy formulation for Islamic Banking Institutions, adoption of international standards issued by international standard setting bodies (IFSB, AAIOFI etc). Implementation of Shariah Governance Framework, development of Islamic capital markets, key stakeholder in devising policies for skill enhancements and awareness creation are few other assigned tasks. Also by virtue of position, he remained a member of SBP Advisory Committee. It was during his stay in 2015, 2017 and 2018 as Director Islamic Banking that SBP has been awarded as the Best Central Bank, for promoting Islamic finance, by a poll conducted by Islamic Finance News (IFN), an arm of REDmoney Group, Malaysia. Mr. Ghulam Muhammad Abbasi has also played a pivotal role in policy formulation while serving as the Director Infrastructure Housing & SME Finance Department (IH&SMEFD). Being Director, IH&SMEFD, he was entrusted with the task of ensuring supply of credit to the priority sectors including Housing, SMEs and exports. Under his leadership, SBP issued ‘Policy for Promotion of SME Finance-2017’ in order to enhance the access to finance to SME sector. He also led various initiatives in the area of housing finance. Mr. Abbasi has attended numerous international conferences, seminars and training programs in the areas of banking supervision, Islamic banking, SME Financing and Housing Finance.

Mr. Yousaf Hussain

His previous experience has primarily been with ABN AMRO Bank, where he held multiple senior managerial positions in Corporate & Transaction Banking and led several landmark international Investment Banking & Treasury transactions across major industries. Yousaf has also been at the forefront of two bank acquisition & integration transactions. His experience also includes senior position with Samba Bank and earlier roles with Mashreq Bank, UAE and Mobilink/Motorola. He has been with Faysal Bank Ltd. since Aug. 2008, where he has contributed significantly to the growth of the franchise through senior management positions within Corporate, Risk & Special Assets Management Group. He was elevated in early 2017 to become the President & CEO of Faysal Bank Ltd. Mr. Hussain’s vision & strategy has led the Bank to successfully embark upon a retail led growth strategy in terms of aggressive network expansion coupled with smooth ongoing transformation of the franchise from a conventional to a progressive Islamic Bank. Yousaf is an Electrical engineer with an MBA from Lahore University of Management Sciences. He is a member of the Executive Committee of Pakistan Banking Association, a Council Member of the Institute of Bankers-Pakistan, Director in Pakistan Business Council and Pakistan Institute of Corporate Governance.

Mr. Junaid Ahmed

× Generic placeholder thumbnail Junaid Ahmed has over thirty years’ experience in the diversified areas of General Banking, Foreign Exchange, Treasury, Corporate and Investment Banking with leading banks in Pakistan and in the Middle East. A seasoned banker, he joined Dubai Islamic Bank Pakistan Limited as President and Chief Executive Officer in August 2010. Starting his career as a Trainee Officer with BCCI, Pakistan in October 1977, he moved to the UAE Banking Industry. He showed commendable performance in Union National Bank, where he set up the Corporate Banking platform under centralized structure within Union National Bank, UAE served as the Head of Corporate & Investment Banking. He significantly contributed towards converting Union National Bank into one of the largest Bank in the UAE. After working at senior level management positions at Union National Bank, UAE, he joined Dubai Islamic Bank, UAE as Head of Private Banking in October 2003 where he established the Private Banking business. Serving four years as Head of Corporate & Investment Banking, he developed strong footing within UAE and the Gulf region as well as executing several cross sell initiatives. His last assignment, prior to joining Dubai Islamic Bank Pakistan Limited (DIBPL) was Chief of International Business, Dubai Islamic Bank, UAE. Under his management as Chief of International Business, he managed to turn around the business of DIB Pakistan Limited into a profitable institution. He was instrumental in converting and setting up a full- fledged Islamic Bank in Jordan, the Jordan Dubai Islamic Bank that opened its first branch in January 2010. He also developed a phased strategy for Bosna Bank International, Bosnia and post implementation, the Bank started showing positive results. Along while serving as the CEO for DIBPL, he has also served as Director on the Board of MESC - Jordan Dubai Islamic Bank, Bank of Khartoum- Sudan and Bosna Bank International – Bosnia Herzegovina.

Prior to joining MCB Islamic Bank, Mr. Durrani was Group Head Retail Banking (SEVP) in MCB Bank. Mr. Durrani has an impressive and successful track record of realizing visions into realities. He is an experienced banking professional having hands-on experience in branch banking, digital banking, SME / Commercial lending and building & managing highly successful large teams through coaching, motivation and leading from the front. Transformation of MCB Bank’s retail franchise over the last 15 years is a testament to his success. Apart from MCB Bank, he has worked with Standard Chartered Bank, Union Bank and other financial institutions both locally and internationally. He has also served as Director of MNET Service (PVT), a wholly owned subsidiary of MCB Bank (now merged into MCB Bank). MNET was the first company in Pakistan to provide a secure electronic inter-bank connectivity platform for online financial transactions. He holds a master’s degree in economics from Pakistan and an MBA degree from USA.

Having started his professional journey by joining Citibank in 1982, he has since held numerous senior positions in large local and multinational banks, which includes: President/CEO of Bank Alfalah, President/CEO of MCB Bank and Soneri Bank, Regional Head for Citigroup for Central and Eastern Europe, Head of Consumer Banking for ABN AMRO’s Asia Pacific region, and Country Manager for ABN AMRO Pakistan. Mr. Bajwa has been active in business, social and public interest areas, and has led key advocacy institutions to impact economic and social sectors. In this regard, he has served as the Chairman of the Pakistan Business Council (PBC) and the President of the Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OICCI). He has also served as a director on the boards of various private and public sector companies. Mr. Bajwa received his education at Columbia University, New York.

× Generic placeholder thumbnail Mr. Muhammad Nassir Salim assumed the role of President & CEO - HBL in March 2024. Nassir is a seasoned banker with 36 years of international and domestic banking experience; he has worked in the USA, Abu Dhabi and Pakistan with organizations like American Express Bank, Citigroup and Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank.
He has been associated with HBL since 2017. Nassir joined HBL as Head Global Operations and based on his contribution and capability was elevated to the position of Head Branch and Islamic Banking. His most recent role before assuming the President & CEO responsibility was the Chief Operating Officer of HBL.
Additionally, Nassir has held key positions such as Director at the Central Depository Company of Pakistan Limited and Chairman of the Board at HBL Currency Exchange, reflecting his commitment to contributing to Pakistan’s financial industry.
Nassir holds an MBA in Finance from the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Karachi, earning the Finance Gold Medal for his outstanding academic achievements. He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Bankers Pakistan (IBP).

Shazad demonstrated exemplary leadership for almost six years at SCBPL and under his leadership, he enabled the business to grow strongly and soundly while continuously strengthening the controls environment. SCBPL attained the 3rd position in terms of profitability in 2019 within the Banking sector and record profits for the franchise since incorporation. During his time, by remaining completely focused on its clients, SCBPL increased its total assets, net loans and deposits by approximately 100% while ensuring operational efficiencies and digital agendas.Mr. Shazad is also associated with various reputed charitable organizations. His contributions on the sustainability front are immense especially for promoting education and health amongst the least privileged and advancing diversity and inclusion within the corporate world. In 2019, he was aptly named #6 on the FT’s HERoes Women Role Model Lists of female advocates globally - first from Pakistan.
